The SOS Children's Villages form the core of our work. In Germany, generally one SOS mother, supported by up to two child-care workers, takes care of four to six children in her SOS family. The average age of children admitted to an SOS Children's Village is six years. Before being offered a permanent placement in an SOS Children's Village almost one in three children had to pass through three and more care settings.
Children whose parents are not able to sufficiently care for them are admitted to SOS Children's Villages. Often, these parents are confronted with several difficulties at a time: health problems, financial issues, relationship problems etc. The German SOS Children's Village Association supports the parents in their parental responsibilities. The services offered range from guidance to a permanent placement of the child in an SOS Children's Village.
In addition, the German SOS Children's Village Association currently finances 129 projects in 42 countries worldwide.
The German SOS Children's Village Association relies on more than 1.8 million donors and supporters.
